Home Improvement contest announced!

Home Improvenet contest Dear Readers,

It’s been a while since we have invited you to participate in some of our contests, and now we want to make up for it. The gears and motors lovers should be satisfied this time, as the contest’s goal is to build a device that is helpful in your home’s everyday life. The contest is called Home Improvement, and there are three Lego Technic sets to win, one for each of the three winners who will make it to the podium. If you’re still hesitating, let us inform you that before the final winners wil be selected by our Readers in a poll, all submissions are to be judged by a very particular jury. The four judges that make it are: Philo, known to every Technic builder at least for his excellent Lego motors specification, me, and two official Lego Technic designers: Anders Gaasedal Christensen and Markus Kossman, who has already honoured Klocki with an interview some time ago.

Go ahead, we’re all impatient to see your submissions! The full rules of the contest can be found here, and the entries can be submitted at this page. We keep our fingers crossed for you!

Service for the community

Our friends from The Brothers Brick have done a great job. They managed to convince TLC to make Castle Advent Calendar available in US and Canada. Initially TLC decided it wasn’t right product for this market (imagine!). Thanks to great campaign by The Brothers Brick this decision was changed last week and a limited number of Advent calendar was made available to US fans. It took me 30 minutes on the phone but finally I got one!

Thanks guys, well done!

How square is your brick?

I have always admired builders who can create models that are not … square! Let’s face it, bricks in their pure form are mostly square. This Raptor by SteveR certainly is not.

Just in case …

Just in case you haven’t seen this awesome creation by Danny Rice (Big-X) yet. It’s one of them you just have to know. And yes, it is minifig scale! Enjoy the full gallery.

Never underestimate the power of the Dark Side

Brickshelfer edulyoung presents cool Darth Vader figure:

Vader

All elements here are regular LEGO bricks, even the helmet. But what I love the most about this creation is the posability of the figure. This is amazing!

Update:I’m sorry, it seems that Evildead already featured Vader few months ago. Edylyoung added few new pictures and that’s why it appeared on the “recent” page on BS.

Surfing the brick wave

Flickr user tiberium.blue presents a stunning surfing vignette:

This is of course submission to GO MINIMAN GO Photo Contest.

Come, ride the bumper cars!

When I was a kid, I remember riding the bumper cars. That was fun! Danila Martyakhin from Moscow brought back these nice memories with his autodrome diorama:

Autodrom

I have troubles to tell if this creation is actually built or rendered. Some images (like above) looks like MLCad render, but the interior shots look real:

My favorite detail here is the angled hood and the fact that model has interior, How these bricks stay together - I don’t know.

Right Prices for Right Builders! Sign Open Letter!

Recently announced launch of the Polish Shop@Home was a great news, that the whole Polish LEGO fan community was waiting for. At last, we can buy sets directly from LEGO, choosing from the entire catalog of products, including exclusives, available only at brand stores, which, as we all know, do not exist in Poland. We can also buy loose bricks (Pick-A-Brick) and order custom sets designed by us (LEGO Factory).

However, the initial enthusiasm soon turned into astonishment: the prices in Polish S@H are 30% to 100% higher than in other European countries like Germany or France, not to mention the Polish street stores. Costly shipments makes it even worse.

We understand perfectly that LEGO has the right to define its own pricing policy as it likes, but we also believe that we - the customers - have the right to communicate our disappointment to the company. So, we decided to tell the Lego why we are not happy. If you, like us, want the Polish S@H prices to go down, sign an open letter and take the survey. Let us see how many are us and what we expect from this service!

Click here to sign an open letter.

Here you can find gallery with some goodies related to the open letter action (posters, userbars) prepared by Bobofrutx (thanks!). We would be grateful for helping us promoting this initiative.

Chocolate colored bank

Kris Kelvin updates his gallery after his Bank returned from a month-long stay at Klocki Zdroj exhibition.

Bank building by kris

There is a lot of interesting details, but my favorite is the roof, built with flex tubes, plates with clips and tiles.BTW, happy birthday, Kris!
