Home Improvement Contest - voting started!

The jury of the Home Improvement Contest had a difficult task selecting the best of the works you have submitted. Finally, it’s the time for a roundup, here are the seven selected entries in alphabetical order, along with some comments from the judges:

Autonomous floor cleaner (Denis Stancer)

Floor cleaner

Philo: “A good design, I especially appreciated the effectiveness of bumpers. And autonomous mode make it more useful..”

Baby crib rocker (Marko Kovač)

Crib rocker

Anders Gaasedal & Markus Kossman: “Simple and compact design. Safety issues has been considered. Must be quiet and gentle to work without waking up the baby. Great idea since it can fully overtake a job in the household and give time for the parents to do something else than rocking the crib, maybe some more time for building with LEGO:-)”

Philo: “A very original idea that seems truly useful in real life - unfortunately I have not yet grand-childs for testing. The constuction looks good and sturdy, with graceful failure mode (the baby would not fall a great height!). Possible improvement: use the NXT with its sound
sensor to rock on demand!”

Sariel: “Blend of an excellent idea and fine functionality. Extra points for making it autonomous, and for serving two generations of AFOLs at once :)”

Floor Cleaner (Dawid)

Floor Cleaner

Sariel: “Robust, functional construction. Interesting, and surely effective cleaning method, and the vehicle itself seems able to handle not only the floor, but a backyard as well.”

Liquid bottle dispenser (Alessandro Cadei)

Philo: “A good mechanical construction was needed to deal with the weight of the bottle. Certainly a hit for kid parties!”

Sariel: “Quite useful and technically challenging at once. The author must have put a lot of work into making it handle well a bottle whose weight changes in time, while any error would result in soaking the entire device.”

Sweep Dozer (Makorol)

Sweep Dozer

Philo: “I am not a great fan of cleaners, but I was won over by its functionnality and excellent construction. Clearly the most aesthetic entry!”

Sariel: “Functionality and a great work on the design is typical for Makorol. Here the result is the fact, that handling the vehicle’s many functions, which would be boring in case of an uglier design, can be fun thanks to the resemblance to the real-life machines.”

Tea blender (Dariusz Witek)

Tea blender

Sariel: “My personal favourite in terms of usefulness - no need to handle this device, all you have to do is to put your cup down, and wait for the result. The maker has taken an account for the sleepyheads who may fall asleep in the kitchen, and equipped the blender with a voice signal to let the users know when the tea is ready.”

Window-blind driver (Tomasz Zając)

Window-blind driver

Philo: “Original and well built.”

Sariel: “Any sleepyhead’s dream. Good point in using the Lego parts as the dead weight - it means author didn’t want to do it the easy way.”

The choice of the final winner of the Home Improvement Contest is up to you now. We will be collecting your votes in a poll for one week, and your votes will determine who stands on the podium. Let’s vote now, and just to remind you, the prizes are:
