Hellboy/Mignola/Misterzumbi

December, 23 1944. Nazi Ragnarok Project, headed by Grigori Jafimovich Rasputin, aims to free the seven demond of doom, Hitler’s last chance to gain superiority during the war time.
Someting went wrong. A child was brought to Earth.
Red-colored skin, tain, horns and powerful right hand. This is how Hellboy was born.

Allies take in the child and after a few years it becomes an agent of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

Mike Mignola, master of graphic novels created the “red boy” 1993, as protagonist in a short stories series. Hellboy was intended to be  a joke, a way for author to amuse himself. And he would probably dissapear in the crowd of comic characters if it not been for John Byrne who focused on his genesis, creating touching and beautiful story.

Since then, Hellboy took off.  There are several long and short graphic novels that mix the fantasy with horror, facts with myths and all that served with well-written scripts  and dark but great drawings.
Alan Moore said: „Hellboy is a passport to a corner of funnybook heaven you may never want to leave”

Mignola’s linework is specific. Dark, but with clear color boundaries, with importance of shadows. And a bit bulky. How would brick build Hellboy look like?

Misterzumbi has the answer:

Hellboy by Misterzumbi

Take a look at this bust, how many details of Hellboy’s face were transferred to the model. It looks like bricks are the best medium to recreate this character. Author didn’t even forget about the cigar! Dark background gives the model a nice touch, beeing a reference to comic books.
