LEGO and the cover up

So it is true, everything is built out of LEGO bricks, sometimes they just fail to cover things up …

UPDATE (by Hippo) Since the image is protected, we cannot publish it here. Click here to see it.

Desert Fortress

RebelRock presents us with a Calrissian Outpost, which throws us again into the Star Wars Universe. It’s called Desert Fortress and, as you can see, it already has the influence of lots of bricks from the new Indiana Jones sets.

Indiana Jones and the Total Craziness

Guess what you get, when you add: too much bricks, too little responsibility and a brown fedora? Total craziness:

You’re gonna need a bigger boat

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat”. In Spielberg’s Jaws Sheriff Martin Brody (Roy Schneider) says it to his crewmate Quint (Robert Shaw) when he sees the shark for the first time. This 70’s Oscar hit still inspires AFOLs all over the world.

Recently Brickshelf user OrionPax (Alex) published a nice diorama with the final battle between the killer shark and the crew of “Orca”:

Jaws

It shows that Alex spent a while studying how the original boat looks like - we can even see the yellow airtanks.

Also our Ricardo (Evildead) has a Jaws-inspired creation in his gallery. Here’s Orca docked in port of Amity:

There is also a couple jaws-like clips on Youtube, here’s my favorite (unfortunately, the person who uploaded it is not the author):

And, if you never saw the Spielberg’s masterpiece here’s the trailer:

Controversial!

From time to time we feel that we have to deal with some topics even if they are controversial. This time let me share with you my thoughts on the issue of copying our models. No doubt you have been exposed to this problem in one way or another. In my view there three layers to this issue.

1. Someone makes a copy of our model for his own, private use.

2. Someone makes a copy of our model and presents it as their own.

3. Someone makes a copy of our model , presents it as their own and somehow gets some profit out of this.

And now for the controversial part: I have no problem with my models being copied using any of these scenarios.

In a first case I can only feel satisfaction that someone liked my creations much as to copying it.

Scenario two still makes me proud even if the copy cat is simply rude and lying.

And you probably noticed the pattern by now - yes, in scenario three I’m still proud that I’m the better builder. If someone managed to make a profit (really?!) out of it - good for him, I don’t think I could support myself by building brick models. And this is precicely the point: this is my hobby and I will treat it as such. If at any time I find that it may be something more serious I will probably change my mind. Right now I’m herewith giving my permission to anyone to copy my models. If I may, I would like to recommend my latest MOC German Steam Locomotive BR01.

I do understand that most of you would have different view, I would like to invite editors of this blog to join the discussion and I’m particulary interested in your comments. When I asked Hippotam what his thoughts were he replied “I would probably have a stroke if someone copied my Red Baron and presented it as their own” We certainly wouldn’t like this!

Vote for LEGO Ambassador!

OK, people, time to close the list of candidates for LEGO Ambassador. Who should represent readers of Klocki? You really made it easy for us - you have selected only one person - Hippotam.

It may sound crazy, but we would like to have a poll anyway. Why? To count ourselves. Let’s provide the LEGO Group (who probably never heard of Klocki) the numer of people supporting Hippotam. This should improve our chances to get our man in the final 30.

Mr Dwarf and myself already voted, now it’s time for you !!!

Home Improvement (13) - Tree Planter

There is an old Polish proverb that says “To be a real man, one should plant a tree, build a house and beget a son”. It you are AFOL, consider the first part almost done. Youtuber KeepItReal1234 has just build a tree-planting robot. Well, actually seed-planting robot:

Now, we just wait for a robot that builds a house. And we don’t want the third robot, right?

Truck Trial in Warsaw, second act

One month ago, we’ve informed you that the Truck Trial season in Warsaw was open. Horrible weather didn’t discourage the contestants, and on the nearest Saturday, May 17th, they are gathering for a second race - time is 11:30 AM, and the place as usual: Szczesliwicki Park, near the bridge at Usypiskowa street. Just like before, we invite everyone who wants to see the most sophisticated model of trucks being tested on various obstacles. This time, this event will be special to us too - the Klocki staff, represented by my humble person, will participate the race “behind the steering wheel” of a brand new model of Star 266.

Keep your fingers crossed for us, or even better - come to support us! :)

Whitewater rafting

I don’t know about you but I consider whitewater rafting best adventure sport ever. Imagine my surprise and delight when I found this fantastic diorama by Alex Eylar. And the funny thing is that there’s no rafting in this MOC, just a quiet time before or after. I need to find me some withewater …
